X. Helen Altenbach, AMFT
I grew up as a third-culture kid and I offer counseling in Russian, Mandarin Chinese, and English. I am a professional cellist, an Associate Marriage and Family Therapist, and a Ph.D. Business Psychology candidate at the Chicago School of Professional Psychology (DTLA campus). I love working with youth and families of all cultures. I use strength-based, evidence-informed modalities including Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT), Narrative Therapy, and Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy (EFCT). I am also familiar with The Gottman Method and currently exploring a wider application of Internal Family Systems (IFS) therapy with individuals who feel limited by a single way of viewing themselves.
I am trauma-informed and LGBTQIA affirmative. I will hold a safe space for you to explore and empower your hurt inner child, so that you may decide on the trajectory of your adult life and career from this point on.
I value self-directed learning and I will guide you to foster insights about your unique Self while being compassionate to the limits of your past environment that shaped who you are thus far. However, the future is not written in stone. If this is a new beginning, I am excited to accompany you on your journey.
